For her debut New Orleans recital, Ms. Kwan will be presenting a program combining works of the Baroque era with compositions by living composers. This unusual pairing draws connections across hundreds of years of musical history while also allowing each composer’s unique musical voice to shine through. Keyboard writing has evolved over time, but composers’ drive to invent has not, and this distinct collection of works by Bach, Frescobaldi, Froberger, Kari Besharse, Ray Evanoff, Evan Johnson, Rebecca Saunders, and Philip Schuessler provides good evidence of the multifaceted results of this pursuit from the 1600s to the present day. This rich array of keyboard music performed by a virtuoso interpreter is not to be missed.
